Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes Divorce: Couple To Split After 5 Years Of Marriage

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are divorcing after five years of marriage.

"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," Holmes' attorney Jonathan Wolfe told People. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

The couple, who married in November 2006 in a lavish Italian ceremony, are parents to daughter Suri, 6.

According to TMZ, Holmes is the one who filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences," and is asking for sole legal and primary residential custody of Suri. Their sources add that Cruise apparently did not see the divorce coming.

Cruise's rep issued a statement Friday afternoon (via Gossip Cop): “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy.”

Cruise and Holmes started dating in 2005 and were very public with their relationship. They became engaged in Paris, and Cruise couldn't contain his excitement.

"Yes, I proposed to her. ... It was early this morning at the Eiffel Tower, so I haven't slept at all," Cruise told People at the time, adding, "Today is a magnificent day for me, I'm engaged to a magnificent woman."

Holmes was equally taken with Cruise and talked about him with W magazine in its August 2005 issue.

“I've found the man of my dreams,” Holmes said. “From the moment I met him, it just felt like I'd known him forever. I was blown away. He's the most incredible man. He's so generous and kind, and he helps so many people, and, um, he makes me laugh like I've never laughed, and he's a great friend."

Cruise, who stars in "Rock of Ages," recently spoke about Holmes in Playboy, saying: "She is an extraordinary person, and if you spent five minutes with her, you’d see it. Everything she does, she does with this beautiful creativity. She’s funny and charming, and when she walks into the room, I just feel better. I’m a romantic. I like doing things like creating romantic dinners, and she enjoys that."

Lauryn Hill To Possibly Face Years In Prison For Failing To File Taxes

After admitting to a judge that she intentionally chose not to pay taxes, Lauryn Hill could face three years in prison.

Singer Lauryn Hill may soon be facing serious time in prison, three years to be exact, for intentionally failing to file taxes starting in 2005. TMZ reports that Hill pled guilty while appearing in front of a judge earlier today (June 29).

HipHopDX previously reported that between 2005 and 2007 the singer earned $1.8 million but willingly chose not to file taxes all three years.

Following news of Hill’s tax woes earlier this month the singer turned to her Tumblr account to give fans her side of the story.

“My intention has always been to get this situation rectified.  When I was working consistently without being affected by the interferences mentioned above, I filed and paid my taxes,” Hill explained. “This only stopped when it was necessary to withdraw from society, in order to guarantee the safety and well-being of myself and my family.”

On top of possible prison time the singer could also be forced to pay almost $100,000 in fines. Sentencing will be revealed during a hearing in November.

Willow Smith Tongue Ring?

11 yr. old Willow Smith, daugther of Will and Jada Smith, has publicly annonuced that the tongue ring she has been showing off is actually a FAKE. She tweeted "It's fake...Sorry" after her fans began to criticise her about it. Whether she is WIll Smith's daughter or Shaquan from down the street daughter she's a kid they like to try stuff, not saying I agree with everything kid's do, but I know it's to be expected for kid's to want to be creative. One of her fan's tweeted "Willow Smith is 11 and has a tongue ring. Where is her parents?" But that's the problem we don't know Will and Jada's whole life story you don't know how they were raised and what influences life had or have on them to make the decisions they make. Parenting does not come with a rule book. So, if they let their child have short hair and so many piercings she looks hellraiser that's their business. We take Hollywood to serious it's entertainment people stop getting sucked into it and worry about what your child is doing. Is your child on drugs, is you daughter still a virgin, how many A's your son got? You don't know, but you know everything Willow Smith did in her "whip my hair" video. Let it go people they call it Hollyweird for a reason.

Why Blacks Tweet More Than Whites

The latest Pew Research report on Twitter use found that 28 percent of African-American adult Internet users tweet, compared with only 9 percent of whites. What's up with that?

In contrast to Facebook, which was overwhelmingly white early on, Twitter has been dominated by black users since it was launched. As funny guy Baratunde Thurston, author of "How to Be Black," pointed out two years ago when he was political editor at the Onion, Twitter's top trending topics are often dominated by black culture, with hashtags like #YouAintHittinItRight, #blackis and #blackaint.

"Certain hours of the day, you will find Twitter is quite black," he said.

Part of the reason is what sociologist Walt Jacobs calls "the digital divide" that saw blacks preferring mobile devices over laptops or PCs. Jacobs, who chairs the Department of African American and African Studies at the University of Minnesota (and tweets), said that more African-Americans preferred cellphones because they cost less than computers and offer private access in households with one shared computer. Tweeting was easier to do on cellphones than posting on Facebook or the once-popular MySpace was. Another theory trotted out by earlier research is that blacks are more interested in celebrity and entertainment news, which are big drivers of Twitter traffic (critics found that conclusion racist).

Jacobs offered one more possible factor: a sense of pride in economy.

"I suspect that some African-Americans may be drawn to the creative challenges of Twitter," he said. "It takes work to communicate effectively in 140 characters or less, and gives you a sense of accomplishment. This might be connected to African-Americans' historical necessity to get by with few resources and taking pride in doing so."
