DAMN: Kendrick Lamar Drops New Music
By: Kyle McCann
Today was a good day for fans of Kendrick Lamar, especially because we all got to wake up and go, "DAMN, these new songs are hot."
The Compton rapper is back in a big way after making his entire album, DAMN available on streaming services just after midnight. Lamar teased the ideas and inspiration behind the album earlier this year, during an exclusive interview with T Magazine, and didn't disappoint with his follow-up to 2015's To Pimp a Butterfly.
The album touches on several of the key elements that most of Lamar's previous music has flirted with: religion, politics, life's purpose, etc. Take note of the shots at conservatives on tracks like "BLOOD" and "DNA," as well as thoughts on how incendiary comments in right wing media can affect public perception on the track "XXX" -- featuring U2, yup, U2. While deep and introspective, the album is also fun, like the track "LOYALTY" featuring Rihanna or "ELEMENT."
Whichever track speaks to you or gets you movin', take a listen to the album and let us know what you like.
