Hey everyone knows how I felt about Chris Brown blaming everyone for his down fall and not owning up to his own mistakes. But on Sunday June 28 2010 Chris Brown gave us what I will call "A Wow Moment". Paying tribute to late his idol and mentor Michael Jackson. Chris was awsome mouth droppin and all. But the moment that made us all have "A Wow Momnet" was when he broke down, sobbed and cried when he tried to perform mj hit "Man In The Mirror". Michael said if you want to a make change then to start with yourself. If you missed this moving tribute see for yourself "A Wow Moment" .

Earlier this week Hip hop lost a legend in the game in Guru co founder of the Hip Hop duo "Gang Starr". Acording to Guru close friend Solar Guru wrote a statement in his own words before his passing that  I posted on my blog earlier this week. A lot has been said about this statement because Guru was in a coma and never regained the power to wake up. However with all the controversy surrounding Guru and his death his older brother Harry Elam Jr has decided to write a open letter to share about  his lifetime with his baby brother. I found this open letter to be honest and heart touching. Here is Guru brother letter for the world to see R.I.P. GURU GANG STARR FOREVER

This Tuesday March 30,2010 Multi-grammy artist Usher is hitting the shelves with his latest CD "RAYMOND VS RAYMOND".  Usher is taking a differnt approach on his latest CD,  having more dance and pop, still having those pulsing Usher tracks that will remind you why you became an Usher fan in the first place.  His CD contains 14 tracks with 3 chart topping singles such as "Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home), "Papers", and "Lil' Freak", "There Goes My Baby","OMG" and " Guilty" feat T.I.    Without a doubt, Usher is working hard to put his divorce in the past and to get back to making hit music, so judge for yourself this tuesday and decide if he still has it with "RAYMOND VS RAYMOND".
Recently Chris Brown put out audio for his fans to turn up the heat on radio stations to play his music again. He said he feels he was not giving a fair shake and he been working hard and desrves a second chance. I agree with you Chris you do  deserve a second chance. And maybe it's a lilttle unfair you are the given the title of the new poster child of "Domestic Violence". But radio is not at fault here you are. You recorded a album I feel was rushed and not all that good. And there was alot of singles you released that was not poppin. Now if you ask me I think you should have took last year off and handle your personal business and get your mind, and heart right. After you did that then handle your legal affairs and then go to the lab and get some hot material and got it poppin. Chris answer this for me is radio to blame for the low ticket sales last year on your tour ? Chris you are talented and young but you got to get off this high horse that other people and radio is to blame. Now I do feel some have black balled you and I think you learned a valuable lesson but did you learn enough to make you a better person? Look in the mirror Chris then look into your heart and you will find the answer and hopefully your next album your music and good actions will do the talikng good luck Chris
Dj Khaled came by hip-hop headquaters to drop light on his upcoming cd "Victory" droping this tuesday (Mar 2,2010). He said he went back to his roots and shared with us he learned his B_Boy hip-hop while growing up right here in the Boro(Greensboro) in the Archers. With his hard work and hustle Khaled feels he got another hood anthem with"All I Do Is Win" Feat T-Pain,Ludacris(Who Murked it ) ,and Snoop. To me this joint goes sooo hard and feels good when I hear it look out for it on 102Jamz as "The New Heat On Da Rise"
Ok so tell me this, you have NBA superstar Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards plead guilty to felony gun charges for pulling out his guns during a agrument with his teammate Javaris Crittenton over a gambling debt. To make things worse,  Arenas had a nonchalant attitude when asked about everything that transpired. Arenas also made a shooting gesture during team introductions that promted commssioner David Stern to suspend the fallen NBA star. Then you have former number 1 draft pick Gregg Odom of the Portland trailblazers having nude pics of him leaked onto the internet. What makes me shake my head is that these guys are giving millions for their God-giving talent and try to throw it all away to be foolsh thugs. Charles Barkley said it best years ago: "athletes are not and should not be role models."

The year 2009:  What a year!  From Obama being swarned in as the 44th President of the United States Of America, and being the first African American to do so, to the death of the King of Pop. Although there were many highs and lows, this year has brought us some some joy over the past year as we end this decade before embarking on another one...
Great Moments of '09:In January at the beginning of the year, millions came to Washington D.C. for the biggest historical event of this decade.  People came to see Barack Obama take the oath of office, and millions more wacthed the event on TV on that cold January day at Washington's Mall.  Performances by celebrities set the tone for this event and after the ceremony, millions gathered around to watch the President and his wife walk the streets hand-in-hand in the parade.  At the end of that historical day, the world was able to witness the beautiful inaugural balls.
 New Breakthrough artist of '09:
And the award for new breakthrough artists for 2009 goes to: Lady Gaga and Drake. Lady Gaga has made a huge impression in the pop world with her music and crazy performances. She has a lot of talent and she definitely stands out from the rest. Drake also has made an undeniably impression on the world of Hip-Hop. The one thing I appreicate about this guy is he is doin his thing his way. No outrageous bling, no gun talk or play, no dreads, just clean cut and just being himself and that's ok with me.
Comeback Artists:
This year Gucci Mane and Trey Songz made the biggest comeback in music. Despite the fact that Gucci can't keep himself out of trouble, he has still been able to make his mark in music as an Indie artist. Trey Songz has made some noise in 2009 as well with his album "Ready" along with great collaborations with other artist. Â
Drama:Tiger Woods... In the words of Jigga man "What more can I say?" First it was the car crash late at nite. Then came the internet rumors of him being a playa-playa off the golf course, then he says the "T" word "Transgressions". Now we are up to the upteenth women who all have claimed that they slept with Tiger. Then we have Chris Brown and Rhianna on Grammy weekend bringing domestic violence to the forefront with both of these young stars going through their darkest hour for the world to see. The violent death of former NFL allp-pro Quarterback Steve Mcnair on the 4th of July, according to investigators by the hands of his mistress who then took her own life. Was this giant of a hero in the  Nashville community living a double life? And of course Mr. Kanye West's outburst at the MTV VMAs towards country singer Taylor Swift. Lets face it, Kanye did more good for Taylor's career and damaged his own ego as well.
Biggest News Headlines:
Michael Jackson's death: The media went into a frenzy about Michael and his cause of death. We have finally left his soul to rest as we end 2009 and hopefully nothing but positive memories are put out about him as we enter 2010. Another very tragic event happened this year. Five-year-old Shaniya Davis captured the hearts of millions across the country after she was reported missing by her mother. Prayer vigils and search parties looked frantically and kept a glipse of hope that this little girl will be found safe and unharmed. That was not the case as her body was found on the side of the road in Sanford, NC. Her mother was charged with prostitution and human-trafficking.  However in the world of hip-hop it was who's who when it came to our favorite artist going to prison, T.I., Gucci again (SMH), Lil Boosie, and Lil Wayne to follow in 2010.
Unforgotten Loses:
Micheal Jackson
Billy Mays
Farrah Fawcett
Ed McMahon
Edward Kennedy
Steve McNair
Dolla
Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein
Brittany Murphy
Man oh man!  What a week!  Sooo much drama like Rick Ross and his baby mama lol. Ok, where do I start?  TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGer Woods. C'mon man.  Dude is slippin' big time on his pimpin' saying he's sorry for his transgressions. Look, Tiger is not the first nor will be the last to cheat. Not saying it's right but it is not the end of the world. How about LA Lakers Power Foward Ron Artest saying he drank Hennesy during halftime while playing for the Chicago Bulls SMH. Katt Williams arrested again this week (SMH). And how bout Jeezy,Drama, and Gucci putting an end to their beef'lets. Let's all drink to that! If Ron Artest has anymore hennessy left lol. This has not been a dull week for the headlines.

Earlier this week the whole country had it's eye on North Carolina when our worst fears came to be with the discovery of the body of 5 year old Shaniya Davis off highway 87 in Sanford. Many pepole asked the question "Why did this happen?" This question has been haunting everyone for several days now. The image of this little angel being held by this monster in a hotel elevator unware that her short life will soon come to a violent end. I feel that if you need a license to drive you must have a licence to have children. The very thought that this little girl's mother who carried her for nine months was the very one who handed her to the very person that will rape and killed her. To call this crime a tragic is an understatement and leaves us to wonder "Why did this happen?"

This week the Winston-Salem Police Deparrtment mourned at the lost of their very own.   Twenty-Seven year veteran Sgt Mckey Hutchens lost his life in the line of duty.  Sargeant Hutchens took the oath to protect and serve the community, the very same oath every police officer takes knowing that any day they may never go home to their famlies again. The family of the alleged suspect, Monte Evans, paid their respects to Sgt Hutchens at  his patrol car, a memorial his family set up, and ask the community for forgiveness, a burden I feel is way too much for them to bare. Not for one moment do I believe that they deserve to be held accountable for what their love one did, but it speaks volume about this family and the community as a whole. All this week since the death of Sgt Hutchens all I heard was nothing but unity from all parts of the comunity and asking for prayers for all those who were involved in this tragedy. This week  after dinner in downtown Winston-Salem I saw a patrol car in the parking lot.  I walked over to the two officers inside and said "Thank you for all that you do and sorry for the lost." I extended my hand and they both held it, fighting back their raw emotions.  They said "Thank you so much.  This community has been so good to us in our lost and it makes us proud to serve."   At that moment, I said "Having you say that makes me proud that you and others like you are serving this community."

By now you have all seen or heard the foul thing Kanye West said and did at the VMA's this past weekend in NYC. Yes, like many of you with a heart I was "NOT" shocked, but still a bit upset with his actions. Let's face it, this is not the first but I do hope it will be the last of his child like behavior. For sometime now I have been very vocal about this gifted and talented artists stupid, arrogant, and flat out rude actions on many fronts. However it seems to me he just does not get it or even cares. Now that I got that off my chest in the heat of the moment I must admit that I do feel some sympathy for Kanye. On the Jay Leno show after his outburst he admits that he never took the time off to grieve over the death of his loving mother. I remember when I lost my father I took two months off from work to take care of his estate get our house in order and to just get my mind right. With that said I do not think the death of his mother is an excuse for his actions towards Ms. Swift but I can relate. I hope in a major way Mr. West will get the help he needs to get his life in order so we can can get back to talk about his art rather than his bad behavior.
I remember 9/11 it was on a cool Tuesday morning when some may say "Was our defining moment for all". The Towers where down, the Pentagon was hit,and America was wounded. That tuesday and many days afterwards our world stopped. Never to be what it was again but also never to let those cowards who attacked our brothers, our sisters, and our children who perished on those planes, towers, and buldings to ever be forgotten. We learned so much of ourselves that day as a community, as a person and as a nation. There were no color lines,  no gender bias, no Democrat or Republican,  just fellow man reaching out and taking of each other. On that day this country was trully the "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" . Yes we was once united for the world to see. For those who co-sign these cowards for what they did saying it was for a cause you damned your cause and to "HELL WITH YA " . Because I will always "REMEMBER 9/11"
While on vacation last week I was shocked and sadden to hear that Nate Quick a former well known radio dj in Charlotte had died due to liver cancer. Nate Quick was working in Dallas TX at the time of his death doing what he loved best "Radio". I was lucky and blessed to have known Nate. He was an extremly hard worker and always found time to reach out and give back. Nate was once living out of his car and always made it his point to visit homeless shelters and do what he can. Many of my friends in the industry are at a loss of words on Nates death. He was not that much older than me and yet he is gone. I saw an interview with his ex boss Skip Cheatham and he said Nate told him of his illnes bout six weeks ago but never let up on his work load and kept doin what he loved to the very end. If there is anything we can learn from this and I am directing this to any african american male reading this is that we must stop taking life for granted. For some reason black males do not like going to see the doctors this type of behavior has to stop because it is a matter of life and death. One thing I will remember bout Nate that everytime I will see him out doin his thing he did it with a smile. My prayers go out to his family and his radio family in both Charlotte and Dallas. Nate was one of the good guys in the game and he will be missed.
Man I am so happy for her. Oscar winning actress Jennifer Hudson gave birth the other day to a healthy baby boy weighing 7 pound and 14 ounces. And while she never came out publicly saying she was expecting it should be to no one surprise that she would want to have something or someone of her own to love. Last year Jennifer endure so much pain and hurt after the senseless murder of her Mother, brother and 7 year old nephew in cold blood. At one moment Jennifer lost everyone and everyhing she loved I can only imagine what she was going through during these trying times. Jennifer rose to fame as being one of the most talented to ever hit the stage on American Idol. But she had to publicly grieve in front of the world when she lost her family last year. I heard someone say that she must of been ashamed of her pregnancy because she kept away from the public. But I say no she was not ,Jennifer never hide her pregnancy from the public but she just never broadcast on the higest mountain for the world to hear. Havin a career in the public eye does not mean you have to share every moment of your life with the public. Sometimes people in the spot light need somethings for themselves and for this I do not blame her. Look Jennifer endured alot in the past year and now she is happy. She is engaged to a man that she loves and she has been bless to give birth to her first child. Let her live and do this in peace .Trust me Jennifer will be back in the spot light again but give her the moment to be a mother to her child. To her fans and everyone else you should  try to be alot like me and just say "So Happy For Her "
Man oh man you talk about the "The Dog Days Of Summer" . Well before we all complain about this little heat spell we got goin on right now for all accounts this has been a very mild summer. And let us keep it real it is August so what do you think it goning to be like during  the the heart of summer . However as we dive into this heat muggy humid days of summer we should always make sure that  we drink plenty of fluids and wear hats when we can and plenty of sun screen to keep us safe. Also do not forget to check on your elderly neighbors to make sure they are doin ok in these "Dog Days Of Summer" . And take advantage of the water as well and have some fun with it. Enjoy the rest of the summer and see you at the pool.
I tell you what credit card companies are getting on my last nerve . No I do not owe them money I paid my card  off and was never late with a payment. As a matter of fact I done so well that they offer me a new card and I kindly declined. But this what makes me sick with these credit card companies. No matter how much you act in a responceable manner they get off in keepng you in debt for ever . These  guys show a lack of good judgement and courtsey when they come to folks  who refuse to keep being in debt and try force to them make bad choices and take credit they can not afford. I only use my card when I travel or on emgerncies. I learned from my college days when these companies will prey on students and set up booths on campus. I mean how low is that stop it already. So to any one who works at a credit card company and are making these annoying calls to me to get more credit I say enough is enough leave me alone and others out there who wants to spend their credit wisely and not in debt for years to come...
You know so many times in life we find ourselves always going hard and never taking the time for ourselves. Putting other people who do not desrve it first.  Or other things that we just will not put off because we feel we need to get it done. I am guilty of that and I had to say to myself one day ,That no matter how much I might disappoint someone or upset someone I need to have me some me time. Just me and no one else and man it felt good. You should try it because you desrve it. What I did was turn my phone off and ignore the outside world. I did what I wanted to do and that was "NONETHING" . Sometimes we need that refuge from the ones we care about and the other things in life that keeps us so busy because we need our time and space. I know I am different and I do put lots of hours in. But I do not do this for me enough. So if you feel you at your breakng point and need to have some me time all I can say is "You Should Try It" ..
