Santillianâs Aaliyah Thoughts
One of the things I remember Most about Aaliyah was how beautiful she was. I remember when the âOne in a Millionâ video dropped and just watching it in awe. She had her signature look, with her hair covering on side of her face, dressed in all white. She was stunning.
Musically she had the ability to make men want her and make women want to be her. Her sound was soft but intoxicating â¦..something you could lose yourself in, i.e. â4 page Letter.â
Since she came on the scene at such a young age, we all got a chance to watch her grow up. I believe, âAge aint nothing but a numberâ came out when she was only 14 years old. I think thatâs why so many people took her death so personally. It was like we lost a sister, cousin or friend that we had been kickinâ it with all these years.
Even today, 10 years after her deathâ¦â¦.we miss her.

Recently on âThe Wild Out Wake Up Show,â the question was asked, âWould you rather be ugly to others and beautiful in the mirror OR be beautiful to others and see yourself as ugly in the mirror.â
Overwhelmingly, the answer given showed that whatâs most important to people is that OTHERS think they are attractive, regardless of how they view themselves. SELF Image, SELF esteem, SELF love and SELF worth are all on the back burner. Instead, Lace Fronts, Diamonds, Bentleys, Prada bags, VIP access and even Twitter followers are all things that we use in an attempt to increase our importance, status or our relevance to others on this earth, but how much does it really mean if you canât find beauty in the mirror?
I donât know, manâ¦â¦The insecurity of it all IS insanity. The constant measuring of our worth against impossible standardsâ¦.. is insanity. And whatâs crazy is that our dependency on things to MASK the insecurity is often misinterpreted as vanity. Weâre just attempting to hide what we donât like about ourselves by projecting some other bullsh*t.
Drugs, make up, big rims, spending, sex, trend following, not caring, and even something as simple as loud ass talking on your cell phone in public (so everyone knows youâre important) are all vanityâs tools.
Find your MASKâ¦â¦lose itâ¦â¦and find yourself.

The rumors for some time now has been that Alicia Keys was kickin it with Swizz Beats even while he was still married to singer Mashonda. For a while, their relationship seemed to be under wraps but lately they've been out in public boo'ed up, so I guess their relationship is a secret no longer. As far as the home wrecker rumors go, Alicia has chosen to speak up. Here's what she said:
"People don't know me for whatever silly rumor or lie they heard, or for silly gossip magazine. I'm fortunate, that's not what my life circles around. For those of us that grew up in the "Golden Era" of hip hop, this is a big deal. Saturday night, I had the pleasure of hosting a tribute show to honor the lengendary producers,  DJ Premier and Pete Rock! (and YES both of them were in the building live and in person)
It was put on by the homie, 9th Wonder and the True School Corporation at Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill. The band for the night was "The Remix Project," and they played live versions of classic tracks produced by Premo and PR throughout the night, while 9th's artist performed for the sold out crowd.

The Holiday Season is Upon Us !!!!!
I got a chance to go home for Thanksgiving this year. My First Thanksgiving in Philly in 10 Years !!!!!!
It was great. The trip allowed me to put some things in perspective though. Forget about gifts, extra money on your paycheck, Black Friday shopping, fictional characters, food or whatever it is that people usually associate with the Holiday Season. Its all about spending time with your FAMILY!
To be able to be in my grandmothers house on that day, with all my people was the best thing about Thanksgiving....period.
Keep that in mind as we get closer to Christmas. Dont sweat the small things.....just be with your people and have fun. Thats it.

I was just sitting here thinking about how lucky I am to have grown up during a certain era in Hip Hop music. The era that witnessed everythng from Run-DMC and Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince thru Jay, B.I.G.,Nas, Dre, Snoop, Outkast on till artist like Wayne and T.I. that are rocking today.Â
    I hate when people try to act like if you grew up with those earlier artist that I mentioned, that you should have out grown Hip Hop by now. More than likely, the truth is that if you ARE a part of that group, you could never let go of hip hop. More than likely, its just in you. More than likely, you couldn't imagine not having any Hip Hop in your life.....THAT WOULD SUCK!
I say that to say this......."F"Â Â THAT !!!!!!!!
     You should not just let that part of you, drift off into some boring ass old head playlist that has you falling asleep by song number 2!! Keep Hip Hop alive with You,  as it is alive with me !!!

I want to start this off by letting everyone know about "The Fifth Foot Foundation!"
    The Fifth Foot Foundation is my non-profit organization aimed at positively influencing the lives of the youth throughout the Triad. We are trying to do OUR part to help these kids to have more positive experiences during their childhoods that can help to shape them, as they grow into adulthood. Through academic scholarships and youth athletics and activities, we hope to help as many kids as we can.Â
Our first fundraiser is coming up at the end of this month. The Fifth Foot Foundation, "Summer Bowling Classic" will take place at Gate City Lanes on July 25th. Registration begins at 12:30pm and Bowling begins at 1pm.
