As soon as I typed “meet the Basketball Wives LA cast,” I thought to myself…
do I have to? Well, yes, because this franchise is reproducing like roaches, so we might as well get familiar.
Basketball Wives LA airs this month, so there won’t be much time to detox yourself from the current crop of Basketball Chickens and their antics before a new spinoff show begins. Anyway, here’s a quick who’s who…
Imani Showalter is the former fiancée of Milwaukee’s Stephen Jackson. She’s the mother of 3, a former singer and claims she hasn’t dated since breaking up with Jackson. Hers will be a story of “finding herself” and will probably result in some sort of “Don’t Be Tardy For The Party” dance track.
Draya Michele is a video model who apparently has done the horizontal mambo dated several basketball players but isn’t currently linked to one. I’m not quite sure why she’s on this show. Maybe she’ll be the new Royce… you know, the one who’s attached to a player but can’t ever speak his name on TV.
Laura Govan is the former girlfriend of Orlando’s Gilbert Arenas (who’s quite the loose cannon in his own right). She’s the mother of his kids and rumored to be Shaquille O’Neal’s one time side piece.
Gloria “That’s What’s Up” Govan (fiancée of LA’s Matt Barnes and source of Shaunie O’Neal’s microscopic nostril flare-ups) returns and this time, she’s brought her sister along for the ride.
Malaysia Pargo is from Compton and married to Chicago’s Jannero Pargo (who?). I’m “Compton stereotyping” in my head right now. Bad Witch…bad, bad Witch.
Kimsha Artest -who did not make the cast photo (were the tatts too much?)- is the former wife but still girlfriend (I can’t figure it out) of LA’s Ron Artest Metta World Peace. They’ve been together nearly 20 years but he recently announced they’ve been divorced for years, then he backtracked and said they’re still together.
Jackie Christie is the mother of all basketball wives. She’s married to retired NBA player Doug Christie. She made a name for herself as a controlling wife when she insisted on traveling with the team during her husband’s playing days in an effort to keep groupies away. The couple also renew their vows every year. Honestly, she’s the only reason I’d watch this show.
Basketball Wives LA airs August 29th at 8 pm (ET) on VH1. Will you watch?
