Green Label has compiled a list of "30 Years Of Def Jam: The Label's 10 Most Notable Albums."
Launched in the mid-1980s, Def Jam Recordings is one of the most revered imprints in Rap history.
"Responsible for everyone from Kanye West and Rick Ross to Ja Rule and The Roots, Def Jam continues to keep us partying while occasionally thinking,” the Green Label story says. "Its cherished back catalog ranges from the politically charged energy of Public Enemy’s It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back to The Blueprint by Jay Z, which is considered to be one of the best in the rapper’s long discography.”
In addition to those Public Enemy and Jay Z albums, the article also names Slick Rick’s The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick as one of Def Jam’s “10 Most Notable Albums.”
"Full of zany humor, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick found him taking a royal approach, and commanding respect due to his gaudy jewelry and lyrical prowess,” the article says. "One of the golden age’s most respected orators, songs like 'Mona Lisa,' 'Teenage Love,' 'Children’s Story,' and 'Hey Young World' are still held in high esteem and recited verbatim.”
