What a Weekend!

This past weekend I had a Saturday I'll never forget!  I flew to N.Y chilled on a yacht, saw the broadway show Fela 7th row center!!! (produced by Jay-Z and Will & Jada Smith) .  Its about a Nigerian musician Fela Kuti from the 70's who created a signature style  of music referred to as Afro-funk in the 70's! Click his name   FELA  for lil sample of his AWESOME music!  After the show I took a nice late night yacht ride to the statue of liberty, there's nothing like NYC at night from a yacht!   So how'd all this happen well let's just say it's nice to have friends in high places! One of my peeps there is an entertainer and has been since he was a little kid.  Check out his stuff from music to movies Duane is doing it it Big!  Click here & see for yourself!

VOTE NOW!!!

Early voting is going ON right and you SHOULD  stand up and be counted.  We are the generation that helped put a black man in the White house, how could would stop now?  Yesterday I early voted and it took less then 10 minutes! You give your name they verify your residence and your in!   The poll I went to said  the majority of the voters had been elderly, it sounds almost insane to me that the elderly would be more interested in voting then young people!  This will be our country and world longer then there's, why wouldn'twe care to vote??  To see disable elderly who had to vote from there cars care enough, made me sad that my generation doesn't care!  What will become of a country where adults don't care about the issues?    This year is an important election year, those who oppose the current administration have joined together and call themselves the Tea Party.  You can best believe there going to vote.  Republican led there plan is to get Repulicans in control of the House and Senate  limiting the Presidents ability to keep campaign promises.  The tone in this country is a bit scary to me, not agreeing with politics is one thing but signs saying go back to Kenya etc. takes the protest level to hate.  Research shows that the Tea Parties negative energy is fueling hate groups across the country.   Is conservative or tea party the new word for Klan?   For example the presidents  message  trying to encourage the ones who put him in office and are known not to be heavy voters to go vote  and a conservative DC paper says in a front page headline "Obama Disses White Guys"   WTF?  Now to a "conservative" who feels his freedom is about to be taken away somehow through health care reform  and is angry his vote didn't put who he wanted in office may feel this is salt in his wounds and want to do something drastic about it.  Why plant seeds like this in the unstable society we live in?  Irresponsible journalism is to blame for spreading this type of foolishness!.  Anywho I say all this to say PLEASE VOTE & VOTE NOW you and your childrens future depend on it!  Check out the message from the President  Message from Obama on voting NOW! Is it a Diss?  Of coarse not but this paper thinks so!   And REASON why YOU should Vote! VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE PEACE

What a Difference a Month Makes!!!

Everything is doing so well! Looking back at the photos from just a month ago I'm BLOWN away! And my first photos, WOW things have changed so much Again I say nature is soooo NEAT! It's AMAZING how the Creator works!
So check me out here is my main
Delyteful Garden from a far!
I got all fancy with power point, trying some before and after. I didn't see a need to post this pic of the newly potted mint at the time, but once I compared the photos a month later, I thought what a treat to see!
What do you think?
Pretty Neat hugh? Well there's more!
You gotta scroll down and look at last months Tomato patch shots then check this out......
GO ME, GO ME, making food!

Another angle. I'm trying 3 different methods to contain my 'matas. :) Cages, and 2 different kinds of staking. I've added more basil while the chives flourish, the scallions that were transported don't seem to have taken off but as long as they help keep critters away I'm good, we have more then enough in other places that are HUGE(you'll see keep scrolling)!

I haven't seen many critters.(except for spider webs) so I'm thinking the companion gardening may be working. We'll see as things ripen. See here chives and basil planted in between rows, it's suppose to keep away pesky bugs and improve flavor! Basil tomatoes off the vine? Ohhhh can't wait to see!

Like I said I have plenty of onions. The green leaves here in the front are potatoes!! They are growing like crazy! I'm going to cover them with hay and have a potato mound. They can grow in hay! Can you believe that! There's kale in between. the onions, cabbage in the back and okra on the side. Keep scrolling for close ups!

The cabbage I thought was dead for sure when I planted it. The mulch underneath, I read it helps the root and stem. Yes that's an empty bottle of my garden gas in the back ground. Don't judge me! :)

Okra seeds breaking through! I think I will thin these down to 2 or 3 plants that will plenty I'm sure.

Everything seems to being OK here, my dill has sprouted but to small to see, tarragon maybe growing or it could be weeds, the peas, cucumbers and beans are looking great. Eggplant, beets & carrots are doing so so.
More close ups Here's the last bed to get started. Last month full of weeds its now the home of Squash, herbs beans, celery and cucumbers. It may look empty now but squash take over quickly. Check out more close up.

Pole beans 2 different colors should come up!

So that's my 4 part main garden! But wait there's more!

My herb garden has gone CRAZY! I've given away a bush and a half of oregeno and still have too much!

Any suggestions on what to do with it?

My salad beds are doing good as well! We've actually eaten a salad or 2 from it! And of coarse it was delicious! Check em out!!

Salad bowl of mixed greens, the one I ate from!

Spinach Bowl

Close up of Cilantro, it makes everything taste better! Surrounded by kale & lettuce

Side Bed! The tree is doing well, flowers are growing and salad bed #2 is looking GREAT!

Close up of sunflowers, and loofah which is a groud! Can't wait to see what fresh loofah is like!

Radishes, onions and summer spinach here!
I'll add carrots in July and maybe Brussels sprouts in August.

Here's my Pumpkin Patch!

The Sugar baby is a seed from last years crop! How exciting is that! I plan to try and do that with everything this year! There off by themselves because, they go vine CRAZY and take over!

So much gardening, so many pics so little time.

Things are changing so fast I'm not sure I'll be able to keep up. Since these pics I have a few green tomatoes, and everything is noticeably growing. I promise to share it all if you keep coming back! Then get motivat ed to make your own food!

PEACE

It's Coming Along!

Things are coming along well, and in weeks my hard work will be rewarded! This is the most recent work Ive done. 2 1/2 back beds down. There's so much more I want to do. So much gardening so little time!
Veggies not planted in this bed yet are cucumbers and eggplant Here are my unidentifiable seedlings, there doing VERY well whatever there. There's cucumber, zucchini squash, pumpkins, cantaloupe, sugar babies and yellow flesh watermelons, if I can only figure out which is which? :/ Special type of cabbage that gets HUGE! I thought it was dead after weeks in a cup, but 1 night in the dirt and it sprung right up! Nature is amazing!!So excited about this bed, it's ,my tomato patch! 3 type of tomatoes to choose from all summer!!
More to come......

I can't wait to eat!

Last weekend I was able to do a little work in the garden! And I'm so excited.
First off my seedling pods that got a moment of silence last post have sprouted like CRAZY(pic coming soon)! Unfortunately Id removed the labels and don't know whats what. So I'll be sorting that out this weekend.
Meanwhile I visited a garden center in King recently and picked up veggies and herbs cheaper then Lowe's to Walmart and so the food preparation begins!!
I have grape, roma and beef master tomatoes in the ground, partnered with basil, moved the chives and lined it all with marigolds to assist in my 100% organic quest!
I had plenty of weeding to do here, I used my new foot tiller (low budget way) to loosen things up and get it ready, not bad for a half foot gardener! :)

Here is the ingredients for the bed. Flowers, veggies and herbs dirt and manure!!! Ohhh how I
love it!!!

New dirt and manure all mixed in with the old stuff! Looks just beautiful doesn't it?

And here it is! The final product. The tomato portion of my garden. I'll add a few more herbs to help avoid using pesticides . Gotta get my stakes up too, I'm going to get them in place before the tomatoes get out of control this year.
As I continue my quest to be a vegetarian I look forward to first harvest and can't wait to eat!!!

My compost is ssoooo cute!

Last week I was in a mad panic to get as much as I could done in the yard before I went under the knife (foot surgery)
Needless to say , I worked till I dropped. Surprised myself!
So here's what I got done! Re-did my compost bins, cut the grass, planted onions, a few Lima beans and transported some kale. As well as picked up timbers to get my other yard projects going.
A moment of silence please for all my seedlings that have passed on and my pod seedlings that never sprouted ;(
I'll have to go to the garden centers to get a few plants, but there's time for that, I'm way ahead
compared to last year. Meanwhile I'm on craigslist daily looking for the best deals on lots of top soil, haven't found any radio hook ups in gardening yet....but I'm keeping hope alive! :)

The Backyard was no joke!
Damn this economy, I miss Fransisco my yard man!
Phew!!
I cut it all myself first time ever!!

These timbers will soon be the home of all types of life. Thanks garden buddy!!

After I build my lettuce beds , I'm thinking about flower boxes throughout the back yard??

It's quite barren right now

Kale from the seedling bed has moved onto the main garden, hope it does well! It's surrounded by onions to keep away the pests!

My chives look sooo good, I'll separate them soon

Sprayed this brush area, to kill the shrubs, it gets VERY thick during the summer, I'd rather mulch it and grow wild flowers, wish me luck!

Here's my pride and joy! My new compost bins... I took the old one cut the timbers in half (braving the ants, earwigs, blood suckers, etc...that had made homes in between the wood!)

This will make for better for composting, and it looks great! The wood off to the side will guide the melons and pumpkin patch!

Mixin in my grass clippings from mowing the lawn...

Have to make sure I have the right amount of browns to greens, always more browns. Thanks to all the coffee drinkers at work for the coffee grounds.

Composting isn't just trash. It's a strategic blend of good waste!

Nature is so neat!

I'm getting started!

This weekend I had the energy to get my garden going! Unfortunately the rain wouldn't stop, so I did what I could, meanwhile this week is all about getting things started.

Here is where most of the MAGIC will happen.... My main garden!

Still a bit of weeding to do here. If all goes well with my garden layout so far this is the future home of squash, celery & okra
Here's my kale that's been growing since Fall, I'm going to move it to the main garden and see what happens!
Seedling bed with Leeks and Kale (both growing since the fall My herbs did well through the winter! Time to separate and plant elsewhere to make the main
garden pest free and hopefully 100% organic!
Oregano

Chives

Sage

Rosemary

Sage

My Compost!! It's coming back to life with the warmth!

This year I'm going to shorten the compost timbers and stack them higher. This should help the airflow

Future Pumpkin & Melon Patch
I read that the perfect place to grow pumpkins and melons was next to the compost.

Future lettuce bed

Got plenty of work to do on my side bed for flowers and garlic!

My sickly seedlings, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage & eggplant .I'm not sure they'll make it :/
(shouts out to my garden buddy Crystal for my little babies, sorry if I killed em:)
So here it is the beginning of Garden 2009! I'm very excited and ready to try all the things I lacked knowledge of last year. Fresh, tasty, free food that I helped create. Gardening is one of the ONLY things in life you get to benefit from the hard (but relaxing) work you put in and you only have to wait a few months for your reward. My wish is to encourage more people to live natural and green. If we all cared enough to have a garden our earth wouldn't be so sick :( , and we'd all be healthier with sharper minds. So join me in Delyteful Gardning 2009!!! It's a great workout, it's relaxing and your getting FREE FOOD, it's a win win! Share your experiences, would love to see your success stories! Peace
